Thanks for the tip. I've found little use for Twitter, but have kept it updated along with FaceBook through ping.fm. I've just gone to Twitter and am now following Twiturgy. I look forward to seeing it. I'll let you know what I think. Sister Pat

Thanks, Sr Eleanor, for the link. I've been back a good few times now and have got a lot out of the site - especially the Hot Topics Q+A and the Library section.
I can't help wondering how his message would impact here in Ireland. I'd love to hear him, but more importantly I'd like him to speak to our youth. He seems to exude such zeal and joy.
There are comparisons with Pope John Paul ll in that both men put to use an innate talent - performing - so as to engage their audience.
My only concern is that the site would turn more gimmiky and less evangelical, but hopefully that won't happen.
The picture of the advent wreath is lovely - and different in that the wreath is horizontal - something I've not seen before

I knew I had it somewhere:

The Gift

It came slowly,
Afraid of insufficient self-content
Or some inherent weakness in itself
Small and hesitant
Like children at the tops of stairs
It came through shops, rooms, temples,
Streets, places that were badly lit.
It was a gift that took me unawares
And I accepted it.

Dear Sr Eleanor, I was at a vigil last night to mark the year of St Paul and the Year of Vocations. Appropriately enough it took place in St Paul's Church, Belfast and was very well attended.
CORI were represented by a group of 6 sisters and nuns each of whom contributed to the liturgy by reading a psalm, or other inspirational or motivational piece. One nun read a poem, The Gift, by Brendan Kennelly, and although it was vaguely familiar to me, it was as though I was hearing it for the first time.
Immediately I thought of those who, like yourself and Sr Josephine and Sr Mary Agnes, have 'accepted it.' ( I can't find an online version of the poem but I do remember that's how it ends!)

As I wrote that post, it never occured to me that it might be read by a mother - I was thinking only about others possibly discerning vocation! So thanks for reminding me that there is always another perspective.
I appreciate being included in your own blog's sidebar!

Dear Ann,
You are absolutely right about the language we use. So much of it does suggest confinement. I particularly hate "enclosure" - it reminds me of the zoo, or the 'jumping enclosure' at the RDS! I'm happy to say that the word "enclosure" does not appear in our Constitutions. We do use the phrase "separation from the world", which many are not very happy with, but we find it hard to come up with an alternative. We need to find a phrase which conveys the idea of 'going apart to an isolated / remote / desert place', as Jesus invited his disciples to do, but without connotations of imprisonment. Maybe someone could suggest something?
